Calder
Park Muscle Car Nationals April 2006
At Calder
Park on Easter Monday the weather looked threatening most of the day but that
didn't deter the huge crowd from attending. We had mixed results
with the RX7 during the day, with the 1st qualifier shaking the tyres badly into
2nd gear and causing the car to get out of shape. The 2nd qualifier we had a
problem getting the car into 5th gear and rolled through for a 8.6 second ET!
With some slight suspension alterations between qualifiers the car launched very
hard
and
during the 1st half of the run was
on
its way to go well into the 7's.
1st elimination saw us up against Grant Williams, Chris cut a 4.4 light a won
the race with a satisfying 7.90@166mph. This pass also saw trouble selecting
5th gear, on further investigation a shift lever locknut had come loose and with
a
quick tighten we found ourselves in the finals!
Unfortunately our day came to an early end with turbo trouble during the burnout...our
competitor also had troubles and couldn't stage either, so being top qualifier
of the 'A' class we are pretty sure we came out on top.
It was a great day and had some great interest and feedback about the RX7.
